- The Upper Room
Our tour passes through five large rooms – each room is unique in appearance and formations.
Discover ancient stalagmites named for the almost perfect images of a “Kneeling Camel” and a “Lion’s Head”. Other stalagmite formations include Santa Claus, the Poodle’s Head, a Parrot sitting on an egg, the Turtle, a Totem Pole, and Folded Praying Hands.
A huge multi-tiered stalk of “Cave Bananas” hangs overhead as you circle the Tower of Babel. Crystal Lake and The Ballroom have historically hosted private weddings, community concerts, and large public events.

Woodward Cave officially opened for commercial tours in the Spring of 1926. This came following a multi-year renovation effort designed to make the cave more easily accessible.
To open the cave for public touring, a long diversion canal was built in 1924 which now carries seasonal flood water away from the cave. Then came the arduous task of cleaning centuries of debris from the cave channels and tunnels. A system of electric lights was installed and finally the first tours were given in the Summer of 1925 to the families of the men who helped to clean the cave. That Winter, the clay floor was surfaced with crushed limestone, and other finishing touches were added. Woodward Cave was officially opened to the public in the Spring of 1926.
Although originally known to locals as Red Panther Cave, the name was changed to Woodward Cave in honor of the nearby village of Woodward.
